Intel Corp., the world’s largest chip company, has moved its Austin engineering operations to 1300 S. MoPac Blvd. (Loop 1) – a property that the company bought a year ago and just finished renovating. The new location offers Intel space for 1,000 workers and 100 University of Texas engineering students who work at the company in nine-month internships, plus a fitness center, a health center and a full-scale cafeteria.
Intel bought the property from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. last year for a reported $39.8 million. The five-story building has 389,000 square feet and 1,492 parking spaces.
International Paper Co. has a long-term lease on about 45 percent of the building and has no plans to move.
