The Austin area has gained nearly 150,000 residents since 2010, ranking the Capital City the 33rd largest metropolitan area in the United States, according to numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau and the Business Journals’ On Numbers. Citing the booming technology sector and other company expansions includng Apple Inc., Seton HealthCare Family and General Motors Co., local economist Angelos Angelou revised the number of jobs he projects the Austin area will see by the end of the year — from 19,000 to 25,000.

Census data is important but rarely exciting; however, the most recent Census Bureau report of Fastest-Growing Large Cities Since the 2010 Census revealed that Austin has moved from 14th to 13th in total population overtaking San Francisco.
